Media Relations Manager

We are seeking a Media Relations Manager with strong organizational skills and a zest for storytelling to provide public relations planning and media operations services for the clients of our boutique sports marketing and media relations agency. We are headquartered a few blocks from the Atlantic Ocean in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. 

 

This individual will work closely with clients on the planning and execution of media relations campaigns as well as on-site operations at events. The skillset for candidates should include project managing, writing, story pitching, creative thinking, strategic planning and self-motivation.  

 

The Media Relations Manager will …

• develop messaging and talking points 

• produce written materials such as media releases, fact sheets and media guides 

• contribute writing for event websites, programs and other materials

• provide statistical research for media guides

• maintain historical records and archives

• cultivate and maintain contacts at relevant outlets, including news, sports, entertainment, travel and business media 

• pitch relevant stories to appropriate media members 

• work with event organizers to operate on-site media centers 

• process media credential applications through third-party vendors 

• be prepared to implement crisis communications plan should that be required

• serve as spokesperson when appropriate

• monitor media coverage 

• contribute to content creation for social media campaigns

• collaborate with event staff, including, but not limited to, management, marketing, social media, sponsorship and ticketing

• liaise with league communications teams and player representatives regarding coverage opportunities

• work with corporate partners to develop appropriate storylines and coverage opportunities 

• adhere to established brand standards for each respective client

• deliver content that is relevant and true to each client’s unique message

• stay current with latest trends and technological advancements in media industry

• roll with it when other responsibilities not mentioned need handling

 

You’d be a good fit if you …

• have experience in a college sports information office or on media relations staff for a team, league or event

• have experience working in the fast-paced environment of live events

• have experience writing and editing a variety of content

• have experience compiling statistics and storylines 

• understand what the media require to do their job 

• are a team player

• can balance several projects simultaneously 

• are comfortable working remotely and at event locations

• think creatively

• are a storyteller 

• manage your time efficiently

• pay attention to details

• enjoy sports

• understand tennis

• are driven to facilitate coverage through thorough servicing of media corps

 

You should know this position requires …

• work on some nights and weekends, based on the event schedules

• travel to event locations

• confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive information

• understanding of brand identities and the unique messaging for individual entities 

• proficiency with programs included in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office

• strong interpersonal skills in written and verbal communication

• professionalism in appearance and demeanor
